Playing in Columbus, Ohio since 2012

a board room (ABR) is a board game cafe and lounge located in Columbus. Columbus is a young and young-at-heart city in Central Ohio known for its thriving retail and entertainment options. Columbus is also home to a long-standing tradition of board gaming, playing annual host to the second-largest board gaming conference in North America and boasting a 400+ member Columbus Area Boardgaming Society. The model for ABR is a popular board game cafe in Toronto, Canada, though there are similar establishments enjoying success from Los Angeles to Chicago. As its first board game cafe, ABR is excited to make a name for itself on the Columbus entertainment scene as a place where friends and community members can gather to interact and have a great time.

ABR is the vision of local entrepreneur and Fisher College of Business alum, Malika de Silva. In addition to an undergraduate degree from Duke University, an MBA from The Ohio State University, and a professional career in corporate retail, Malika has over a decade of experience in the retail and restaurant industries. She has always thrived in customer service and front-of-the house roles and draws upon these experiences to guide the development and management of ABR. She is grateful to have the support of many successful retail and restaurant entrepreneurs from around the country and in Columbus. Malika is passionate about creating a well-designed and comfortable ?third place? where people can enjoy the company of family and friends, good food and drink, and of course, board games.

ABR has a focused list of products and services: a menu including draft beer and wine, an assortment of original snacks, and a staff that is knowledgeable about ABR?s library of board games from around the world, which are available to play for a flat rate per table. With a strong brand and effective use of PR and social media marketing strategies, ABR is confident it can create a one-of-a-kind experience in Columbus for which customers will return again and again. ABR is slated to open in fall 2012 ? game on!?

Since a good portion of people who read this will likely trek through Columbus at some point (Origins Game Fair, anyone?), check out the website and find out when this new cafe opens!

And to whet your appetite, here?s a picture of the Snakes and Latte Cafe, in Toronto.
